Quality control is a lottery
I bought one of these to replace a worn-out OEM rim on an existing wheel this weekend and while I have a satisfyingly true wheel, I expect I'll have to frequently tune it up. Perhaps it's my fault for not checking the rim for straightness first, but to get it true required quite widely varying spoke tension despite identical spokes, leaving some above and some below the recommended tension. As the hub and spokes were fine and unchanged, and the previous wheel was fine, I put this down to deformity in the Open Pro. Correcting this using spoke tension is bound to lead to the looser ones getting looser still. Also it weighs 30g more than the 435g Mavic's site says it should. I'm not a weight weenie but for me the discrepancy and the deformity add evidence for the many rumours about Mavic's quality control being poor in recent years. If the quality was good it'd be worth the current price, but if quality's a lottery then there are more reliable alternatives.
